  • Personality

As a cask comes to maturity, Finn curates sampling sessions in interesting and relaxing environments, with friends, whisky experts and trusted partners to discover the personality of each cask and gauge the experience each dram evokes.

  • Distillery character

All the best distillers pride themselves on crafting whisky with a distinctive flavour, which is determined by the water source, grain and barley, the peat and malting, and their distilling processes. High quality original spirit is integral to every cask we bottle.

  • Cask influence

The cask itself interacts with the whisky over time. The type of wood plays a big role, as do treatments such as the whiskies are aged in a variety of types of casks. The whiskies are aged in former sherry or bourbon casks, augmenting the cask influence. External conditions such as air temperature, pressure and humidity also interact with the cask producing a knock-on effect that makes the spirit inside unique.

  • Balance

Finn uses these factors to balance each FT whisky experience. He may sample a cask and decide to leave it on the rack, allowing age to further develop its personality. He might decide to re-rack a whisky in a new cask to add a finishing touch. Or, he might simply deem it ready. When Finn decides the flavour is perfectly balanced, it’s time to bottle the whisky.

Cask Story

My very first football memory is watching Scotland play Brazil at the World Cup, the last time Scotland appeared on that stage.
Since then, like so many Scotland fans, I’ve spent years waiting for the moment we would finally return.
Over the years I’ve followed Scotland across Europe, travelling to away games in places like Israel, Lithuania and Slovakia. Each campaign carried the same hope, and often
the same heartbreak, as we came close but never quite managed to get over the line in qualifying.
That long wait finally ended when Scotland beat Denmark to secure our place at the
World Cup, a game I was lucky enough to be at. It was an unforgettable moment, not just because we qualified, but because it represented decades of belief and loyalty from Scotland supporters everywhere. That’s why this whisky is so special to me. It was distilled on the very day Scotland kicked
off the 1998 World Cup. Filled into cask while John Collins gave us hope, it has been waiting, just like the fans, for our return to the world stage.
Bottled for the Tartan Army, it’s a tribute to the loyalty and belief, and a great way to give back, through the Tartan Army Children’s Charity.

Distillery character

North British Distillery is renowned for producing single grain whiskies of remarkable elegance and maturity, and this expression is no exception. After many years of patient ageing, it reveals a rich, creamy profile with a beautifully polished texture. Layers of indulgent vanilla fudge and golden caramel unfold on the palate, underpinned by soft, honeyed cereal notes that speak to its grain origins. The result is a whisky of depth and refinement, approachable yet complex, where sweetness and structure are held in perfect balance.

03

Cask influence

Over 28 years of maturation, this American bourbon barrel has imparted a generous and enveloping layer of vanilla sweetness, becoming a defining influence on the whisky’s character. Drawn from the oak and its previous bourbon fill, these soft, creamy notes integrate seamlessly with the mature grain spirit, enhancing its natural richness while preserving its elegance. The result is a beautifully balanced whisky, where the cask’s warmth and sweetness complement the depth and age of the grain, creating a smooth and cohesive profile.

04

Balance

A beautifully poised balance between distillery character and cask influence, where rich toffee and golden caramel from the wood are seamlessly interwoven with a subtle lift of tropical fruit, bringing brightness and elegance to the whisky’s depth.
